How to bend fold lines without a press brake

Every Denerog DXF includes scored fold lines — shallow laser engravings that weaken the steel exactly where a bend belongs. If you do not have press brake just cut the sheet along the bending lines to half its thickness and bend manually. That is what makes these sculptures buildable at home: you never need a press brake.

1 · Clamp along the fold line

Align the scored line with the edge of a sturdy workbench (or a length of angle iron clamped to the bench). Fix the panel with two C-clamps as close to the line as possible. Any gap between clamp and line turns into a curve instead of a crease.

2 · Bend in one motion

Press the overhanging side down with both hands in one steady motion. Bend slightly past the target — mild steel springs back 2–5°. For 2 mm panels longer than 40 cm, use a wooden block along the bend edge to spread pressure.

3 · Check the angle

Each fold's target angle is printed next to its panel number in the assembly guide PDF. Check with a cheap angle gauge; correct small errors with light taps of a dead-blow mallet on a wooden block — never directly on the steel.

4 · Follow the bend sequence

Bend in the order the guide lists. If you over-bend, open the fold gently in a vise — once, not repeatedly; steel fatigues at the score.
